TV Camera: fight or flight?
#TV #appearance #media #communication
Pretty much everyone who has made a presentation knows how it feels to face a camera. It’s a nerve-racking experience. You can’t plan for the adrenalin rush; you cannot create a perfect scenario. But what you CAN do is prepare the best that you can.
Science communicators struggle to expand their reach and show that their arguments are important and deserve media attention, especially in times of COVID-19 pandemics, climate crisis and energy issues. Although many science communicators have found a way to deal with stage fright during lectures and other in-person events, many struggle when there is a camera involved. The ‘fight or flight response’ is an automatic physiological reaction that prepares the body to deal with fear. Test yourself, overcome your fear and have fun with us (and our TV camera).
We will help you stand up and present your research confidently. In this 90-minute workshop, we will focus on a TV appearance. For this purpose, we will simulate a TV interview and put the tips and tricks learned into practice on a real participant topic/project.
What will you learn?
The purpose of this workshop is to give you a set of tangible advice that you can implement directly after the training while learning important communication skills you will be able to apply in different contexts.
Who is this training for?
This workshop is for scientists, researchers, and research managers at different stages of advancement and from any discipline, who have no or only elementary experience with TV appearances.
Our other workshops
The workshop invitation arrived just when I was reflecting on my presentation and communication skills. It made me aware of some of my mistakes beforehand. The workshop motivated me to become active on social networks so I posted a work highlight on LinkedIn, which yielded impressive results in terms of increased engagement. I’m considering expanding to Twitter as well. Overall, the workshop helped me tremendously with media communication and social networking.
